Integrating ISO 20400 into Sustainable Procurement: Global Trends, Strategic Frameworks, and Supply Chain Implications

Abstract
Sustainable procurement has emerged as an essential strategy to integrate organizational performance with environmental, social, and economic goals across the globe. Although the adoption of sustainable procurement continues to rise, the implementation of the strategies is still lacking. In this paper, the use of ISO 20400 will be discussed in the context of integrating sustainability in the procurement process. The analysis of the issue will be conducted through a conceptual model based on current literature.
In particular, the integration of ISO 20400 into the organizational strategy can serve as a tool for transition from compliance-based procurement to value-based sustainability. The trends in globalization, such as regulations, digitalization, and ethical procurement, along with the problems of the supply chain complexity and performance measurement, will also be covered in the paper.
