Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as one of the most critical threats to global public health, with hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) serving as a major hotspot for the rapid evolution and transmission of resistant pathogens. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of AMR trends, focusing on resistance patterns, evolutionary pathways, and clinical implications associated with key HAI-causing microorganisms. Using a mixed-method research approach, the paper examines longitudinal surveillance data, laboratory susceptibility profiles, and real-world case studies from tertiary-care hospitals. Findings indicate an alarming rise in multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii. Additionally, the study highlights challenges in infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and diagnostic delays, which collectively accelerate pathogen evolution. Recommendations emphasize a multi-layered strategy involving rapid diagnostics, AI-supported surveillance, policy-driven antibiotic stewardship, and genomics-based risk monitoring to mitigate AMR escalation in hospital environments.
